How it Works

1. Project Starts

The project starts with a conversation with one of the producers. The producer will explain the different options the agree the scope and cost of the film with you. There are no questionnaires or in depth interviews at this time, it has been our experience that the stories should be captured on camera, not beforehand.

2. Research

The next step is to gather all photos, video footage or archive that you would like to use in the film. These can be in any format, any condition. We then take high quality scans of the images and transfer the films in preparation for the editing process.

3. Interviews

These are in-depth interview sessions with you or anyone you would like to be part of the film. The interviews will be filmed using professional cameras and lights and will last between 2 and 4 hours per person. The director will lead a conversation that covers all aspects of the subject’s life, the highs and lows, any stories or memorable events. This interview will form the back-bone of the film.

4. The Edit

The Editor will then take the interviews and using photos, home movie and archive, will edit the story together into a film, usually between 10 and 20 minutes long.

5. Music

When the film is at rough cut stage, music will be written on the piano by Margaret Whey. This is then recorded and edited into the film.

6. Approval

We will send you a ‘rough cut’ Once you have watched it, in your own time you are able to make changes, take out certain bits of interview or change the music etc. Will will then send it back to you to watch again. Once you are completely happy, the film will be in its final form.

7. Final post

The film will then be colour graded and audio mixed, it is then picture locked.

8. Delivery & Upload

The film will then be uploaded to The Memory Tree website in it’s own private area. You and anyone you invite can access this area with your password. The film will be accessible to stream or download from anywhere in the world 24/7.
